Top 6 Maserati Concept Cars Of All Time

Maserati has been producing Italian luxury cars and racing vehicles for over 100 years now, and in that time, they’ve produced some groundbreaking vehicles. Some that went on to go into production, and others that were considered “concept cars.”

There have been quite a few with the most recent being the Alfieri, which was showcased at the Seoul Auto Show this year. Let’s take a look at the top 6 concept cars that Maserati has made over the past century.

6. Maserati Medici II

This car made its debut in October 1976 at the Paris Motor Show. This vehicle built on its predecessor’s innovative shape with a thin, slim front end with four independent headlamps. It also boasted large windows and a fastback style rear section that really made it stand out. This was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, who was named Car Designer of the Century for his innovative work.

5. Maserati Chubasco

This one never made it into production because it would have been too difficult to build and turn a profit back in 1990 when it debuted. It had a look that reflected a true Italian supercar design with a low, dynamic profile. It would’ve featured a twin-turbocharged eight-cylinder engine capable of producing 430-horsepower. What could’ve been…

4. Maserati 320S

In March 2001, this concept racing car appeared at the Geneva Motor Show to the delight of fans. This was a true barchetta with one seat fully outfitted for competition with six-point belts and an exposed roll bar. It also featured a small aeroscreen for weather protection, but this car was built with racing in mind.

3. Maserati Birdcage 75th

This futuristic design was made to celebrate the company’s 75th birthday. It was constructed of carbon fiber with diffusers at the rear and two spoilers that automatically open at speed. The windscreen is more of a bubble that covers the entire cabin to establish the “glasshouse effect” and the whole top lifts up with no actual doors included. This car took six months to design and is still one of the most unique concept cars ever created.

2. Maserati Alfieri

This is the most recent concept car design and it is named after one of the original Maserati brothers, Alfieri. It has a more timeless, streamlined design. It has long luxurious lines that give it a regal aura, and when it goes into production next year, it will feature one of three different powerful V6 engines.

1. Maserati Boomerang

This is the design that started the concept car revolution by Maserati. While not the first one they designed, it is the most well known concept. This is Giorgetto Giugiaro’s crowning achievement with sharp angles and a wedge shape that would influence many different vehicles, including the DeLorean seen in the movie, “Back to the Future.” There is only one original vehicle that has lasted since it was first fully constructed in 1972. It is privately owned, but still makes appearances to this day.
